Influenster Beauty Bloggers VoxBox 2012 Review

A while back I was selected by Influenster to receive their Beauty Bloggers VoxBox.  Here are the products I received:

The deets-

the good

The candle smells amazing. Although the candle was from White Barn, and not Bath and Body Works. We did receive a coupon to purchase candles from BBW, it was expired by the time my package was sent to me. Bummer!

At first I hated the Vitabath Fragrance Mist,  after spraying it a few move times I really enjoyed the lemon smell.

Everyone must go out and purchase the Goody Simple Styles Spin Pin immede.  The Spin Pin takes the place of 125185120051 bobby pins, making it super easy to do a sock bun.

the bad

Kiss Everlasting Pro Lash Kit-I don't use fake lashes, I never have, I won't say I never will.  I've read good reviews about the lashes from people who've used them.

The Kinky Moves Curl Defining hair cream.  I have no curl to my hair. I wish I had some.  I had no use for this product.

the ugly

The NYC Color Eye-shadow   The darker colors black and gray aren't really my shades.  I would never, ever wear white shadow. I would be open  to trying this shadow in more neutral tones.

**I was not compensated at all for this review. The opinions expressed in this post are my own.**

Movie Review Monday

Its been a while since I've reviewed some movies. We've been watching a lot lately.  The cold weather finally set in (here in Minnesota) and we're still adjusting back to the cold air.

Anywho, on to the movie reviews.

We've finally been seeing movies at the cinema (again).  Back in Missoura the closets movie theater was 45 minutes away.

We became best friends (and still are) with the Redbox.

Now we live 10 minutes from the cinema. Yay!

Wreck- it Ralph

A video game villain wants to be a hero and sets out to fulfill his dream, but his quest brings havoc to the whole arcade where he lives.

So I have been waiting to see the next installment of the James Bond series for the better part of four years.  Finally my chance had come to see it...only the theater was sold out.  My consolation:  "Wreck it Ralph."  Now to be fair I wasn't really in a cartoon frame of mind when I watched it.  "Wreck it Ralph" was a nice film.  It had a couple funny parts but overall, it really wasn't my cup of tea.  On a related note, it was difficult for me to get past the fact that Sarah Silverman was the voice of the little girl.  I kept waiting for her character to bust out the fart jokes.  Just a little too difficult for me to take her involvement seriously.  If you have kids (or an immature girlfriend, cough, cough,) then I recommend it.

Ryan's Grade: D

I am the immature girl-friend who loveddddd this movie.  I did feel bad that we weren't able to see Skyfall the night we had planned, due to the sell out. I loved that incorporated old video games from the 80s and 90s. It did make me feel that old though.  Lots of vivid colors, fun animations and cute story. nuff said.

Bond's loyalty to M is tested as her past comes back to haunt her. As MI6 comes under attack, 007 must track down and destroy the threat, no matter how personal the cost.

As I said before I have been waiting quite a while to see "Skyfall."  Pretty much since the last one ended.  I loved this one.  If you saw "No Country for Old Men" then you know that Javier Bardem makes a fantastic villain.  Skyfall is another example of this.  The plot is fantastic and Sam Mendes shot the film in a manner that promotes drama.  In my mind he made up for the massive piece of crap that was "American Beauty."  I won't spoil the whole thing but "Skyfall" is a "reboot" of sorts and I like it.  It's good to try and keep it fresh after fifty years.  There are a couple of things that I love about this film and the last two.  First, they have gotten away from using too many gadgets.  There are no invisible cars, no exploding pens, and no high powered laser watches.  The screenwriters did a wonderful job of poking fun at these previous missteps several times throughout the film. The other thing that I loved was that while they poked fun at the preposterous points of previous films, they also paid homage to previous classics.  The car from "Goldfinger" was prominent in the film and there is even a subtle reference to the ejector seat featured in the film.  The story was great.  The direction was stellar.  Previous faux pas were panned and previous greatness was embraced.  "Skyfall" was worth the wait.

Ryan's Grade:  A+

Finally, after lots of bitchin' Ryan was able to see Skyfall. Thankfully Skyfall did not disappoint  Daniel Craig is growing me as 007. I really enjoyed this movie.  I loved the title track "Skyfall" by Adele. Many people have said this Bond film was too long, I didn't feel that way at all.  I get really ansy during long films and almost didn't want this to end.  If you don't know a lot about Bond I would recommend watching some (if not all) of the other Bond movies. That might help you understand some of the references in the film.

The Campaign

In order to gain influence over their North Carolina district, two CEOs seize an opportunity to oust long-term congressman Cam Brady by putting up a rival candidate. Their man: naive Marty Huggins, director of the local Tourism Center.

This was an unfortunate film.  Will Farrel and Zach Galifanakis together in film should be amazeballs, but alas this was not the case.  I love both of these individuals, but I came away from this film disappointed.  I think Will Farrel is best when he is part of an ensemble where he can play off of others and not have to carry the film.  I am uber excited for the Anchorman sequel.  But when he has to carry the movie, I have been less than impressed.  I think the real problem with this film is the script.  It had a few funny moments, but the funniest part of the film wasn't really anything either of the headliners did.  It came when Galifinakis' children were confessing things that they had done that may have affected their father's campaign.  The characters were pretty lame.  To get Farrel's character he basically took his George Bush impersonation, made it less funny and more douchey.  Galifanakis basically took his bit where he plays his soft spoken brother "Seth" and gave him a southern accent.  You can skip this as far as I'm concerned.

Ryan's Grade:  D-

I was really hoping to love this movie. I didn't, it was painful to watch. Ryan's review pretty much says it all.

The Raven

When a madman begins committing horrific murders inspired by Edgar Allan Poe's works, a young Baltimore detective joins forces with Poe to stop him from making his stories a reality.

Not a lot to say about this one.  The mystery was pretty good, and even I was surprised by the ending, but it had John Cusack in it.  I'm not the biggest fan of him.  The film was good in spite of him.  Not because of him.

Ryan's Grade: B

This movie is one of the best films I've seen in a long time. That being said, I can't stand John Cusack.  I think he played Edgar Allen Poe very well. The story line was very interesting to me. I'm very fascinated to read Edgar Allen Poe, and read more about his life.

The Expendables 2

Mr. Church reunites the Expendables for what should be an easy paycheck, but when one of their men is murdered on the job, their quest for revenge puts them deep in enemy territory and up against an unexpected threat.

If you saw the first "Expendables" then you know what to expect.  Your enjoyment of this film is based on your expectations.  When they coined the term "popcorn flick" this is what they were talking about.  It will never win an Oscar, but it is a great way to waste two hours.  Take the first one, add more significant roles for Schwarzenegger and Willis, and Van Damme as pretty bad ass villain, and sprinkle in Chuck Norris' first movie role in over a decade and you have a recipe for a pretty kick ass film.  Go in with the right expectations and you will be rewarded.

Ryan's Grade: B+

When we saw the first Expendables I told everyone to go see it. This one I didn't tell anyone to go see.  It was defiantly a shoot 'em, blow 'em up film. I don't mind those movies-after all I loved the first one.  When Chuck Norris appeared on screen there was a gasp from many people in the theater. I don't understand the CN appeal. I really wanted to like this movie. it didn't happen.

Have you seen any good movies lately?

in my hometown...

Linking up with Lin for Random Thursday.

The topic this week is:

I grew up about 10-15 minutes north of Minneapolis, so I will share the fun things in my "hometown, aka the Twin Cities".

When I tell most people I'm from Minneapolis the first this out of their mouth is "How cold is it/does it get up there?"  If I had a quarter for every time someone asked me this. I would be sittin' pretty.
my response is "well it can get cold, but you kinda get used to -20 air temp, with a -40 windchill."
this is the look I normally get

yup that look.
next question "how much snow is up there?" well normally there is a good amount of snow, like the year before we left MN to move to Misery Missoura.

that my friends would be "the beast" aka Ry' guy's wheels.

So it snows here. It gets cold. We are also lucky enough to have four seasons. Very defined seasons.

we have Target Field, home of the Minnesota Twins.  The 2014 All Star game will be held here.

we have lakes, over 10,000

we have one of the largest State Fairs in the U.S.A

we have a great group of bloggers from all over Minnesota

The Twin Cities is the headquarters to several large companies.  Target, 3M,  Best Buy, and Honeywell.

I hope you've enjoyed learning about my hometown.

I'm loving that as I write this post its 56 degrees and I have the windows open.

I'm loving that I have the next six days off. This means lots of time with my boys, movies, catching up on magazines and books.

I'm loving that Ry-guy started his new job and loves it!

I'm loving Ginger Ale!

I'm loving that I am lucky enough to not have to work tomorrow or Black Friday.  I will not be shopping on Turkey day or early Friday (if at all).  People should get to spend time with their loved ones.

I'm loving that I finally sent out my birthday party invite.

I'm loving that I spent time with my cute niece and nephews last weekend.

What are you loving???

guest blogger-Dexter Morgan

Howdy Y'all-Dexter Morgan here. I was just practicin' my best twang voice.

My Mama developed an accident from living in Misery Missouri. Nuff about her.

Actually back to my Mama again, you might have come here lookin' for her.  You see she's been MIA around the Blogosphere- as you already know. She might have complained told you she hurt her paw. I've heard her yappin to Papa about it hurtin' a lot and stuff. She had this big ol' thing on her paw for a while. Then she was yappin' even more to Papa about it, they left me home alone  she went to the Doctor. The told her her paws thumb was broken. She came home with a huge green Alien on her.

I think Alien is a great name for "it"

Let me tell you how much I hate this thing!!!!!!!!!!!! she swings it around in her sleep-she's even hit Papa while he was sleepin'. it takes up a whole pillow to sleep on, MY PILLOW!  this means I get the shaft, pushed aside, sent to the end of the bed. I don't share thing (incaseyoudidntknow) especially my Mama and my bed/pillow.

She keeps yappin' about bloggin' so I did it for her. Hope you enjoyed the update on my Mama.

Enjoy your weekend pups!
